6) Great emphasis on experiential learning by providing access to state of the art remote labs, virtual labs and cloud labs and simulations as applicable to individual courses.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
The programme emphasises on Experiential Learning that allows learners to apply concepts learnt in the classroom in simulated, and real work situations. This is achieved through Simulation-based exercises.
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT
Continuous Assessment includes graded Assignments/ Quizzes, Mid-semester exam, and Comprehensive Exam.
CASE STUDIES AND ASSIGNMENTS
Carefully chosen real-world cases & assignments are both discussed and used as problem-solving exercises during the programme.
DISSERTATION/ PROJECT WORK
The fourth semester offers an opportunity for learners to apply their knowledge gained during the programme to a real-world like complex project. The learner is expected to demonstrate understanding of vital principles learnt across semesters and their ability to successfully apply these concepts.
Online Labs & Remote Labs
VIRTUAL LAB
The Virtual Lab is a cloud based simulation space, where participants can design, develop and test solutions for industry scale problems. The lab hosts a range of popular software tools that can simulate the complete spectrum of engineering processes to the accuracy and precision of real-life. The lab is open 24x7, 365 days with a live support.
Participants of M.Tech. Design Engineering can access the following Virtual Labs:
Fluid Dynamics Virtual Lab
Flow Simulation tools aid significant reduction in time & cost incurred during the design phase of a product. The real-time fluid behaviour and interactions can be simulated with near accuracy. Virtual lab using the simulation tool, Flowvision provides a platform to apply various numerical techniques and study the flow field characteristics. Participants can perform experiments such as Simulation of laminar, turbulent and varying mass flow, Simulation of Conduction and Conjugate heat transfer.
ANSYS Virtual Lab
Finite Element technique allows to analyse more complex design geometry with higher accuracy to understand the physical behaviours of a complex object. ANSYS Virtual Lab deals with various numerical analysis and predicts the structural and thermal behaviour of components to check and validate its design more accurately and economically. Participants can perform experiments such as Evaluating static and dynamic performance of various design under structural and thermal loading.
Virtual Lab using Matlab
MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and proprietary programming language. Matlab is used for computer programming, mathematical modelling such as geometry, dynamics & robotics, and MIL simulations. Participants can perform experiments such as Computer programming experiments, Design the points, curves and surfaces and validate mathematically using curve fitting toolbox.
Fracture Mechanics Virtual Lab
Fracture mechanics predicts failure of structures/components by means of uncertainties in loading or environment, defects in the materials, inadequacies in design in the extension of component life. Virtual Lab allow users to simulate 3D crack growth in engineering structures where the component geometry, local loading conditions, and the crack geometry can be arbitrarily complex. Participants can perform experiments such as Crack propagation simulation by considering surface crack, single edge crack, and double edge crack.
Material Testing and Technology Virtual Lab
Main objective of this lab is to simulate the molecular behaviour of soft materials such as plastics, rubber, elastomer, paint, adhesive, fuel cell and so on. And also to test various mechanical properties of soft materials through simulation. Participants can perform experiments such as Polymerization of LPDE, HPDE, LLDPE, PVC and PC, Dissipative particle dynamics of PSB and EPDM.
DFMA Virtual Lab
DFMA Product Simplification software by Boothroyd and Dewhurst utilizes an intuitive question-and-answer interface that identifies opportunities for substantial cost reduction in a product. By applying industry-tested minimum part count criteria, the software finds parts that can be consolidated/eliminated while maintaining 100% functionality. Participants can perform experiments such as DFA analysis for simple assembly, DFM analysis for cost estimation.
Automation Studio Virtual Lab
Automation Studio offers intuitive design, animation, simulation and system analysis functionalities in a versatile and user-friendly environment in Mechatronics and Automation domain.
