COURSE 1: IOT TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATIONS - 8 Weeks

Develop an understanding of IoT technology and Cyber-Physical Systems. Explore the vast spectrum of IoT applications and gain an appreciation of the building blocks of IoT.

8 Weeks

THIS COURSE COVERS

Introduction to IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems; IoT Enabling Technologies; Different Levels of IoT Systems; IoT Design Methodology; Introduction to IoT Platforms and End Devices, Introduction to IoT Network and Cloud Services; IoT Applications - Design Challenges; Basic Architecture and Components.

  • Identify issues and design challenges in IoT applications
  • Select appropriate hardware and software components for IoT applications
  • Lay out the design / life cycle for IoT applications
COURSE 2: Hardware Architectures for IoT

Develop an understanding and use of typical processors & peripherals relevant to IoT, and design & build IoT hardware.

8 Weeks

THIS COURSE COVERS

Low power processor and microcontrollers – architecture, programming & interfacing; IoT platforms; Memory architectures - Cache, Memory Management and Memory protection, Speed Vs. Power optimizations; On-board/ On-chip buses and I/O interfaces

  • Identify processor architecture relevant to IoT applications
  • Build IoT hardware using components - processors, memory and peripherals
  • Measure and optimize performance of IoT hardware
  • Optimize speed vs. power in IoT applications
  • Leverage on-board/ on-chip buses and I/O interfaces
COURSE 3: Software and Programming in IoT

Learn how to orchestrate the communication and collaboration between a large numbers of geographically distributed devices with diverse capabilities.

THIS COURSE COVERS

Operating Systems for IoT applications; Building Android applications; Web server implementation and deployment; Commonly used software tools and technologies for IoT

YOU WILL LEARN TO
  • Architect IoT application software
  • Analyze the impact of OS and runtime environment on an IoT application (in terms of memory access, concurrency, communication, and scheduling)
  • Design and implement IoT client software on mobile devices including user interface, database access, event handling and communication
  • Design server-side/ cloud-end of the IoT application
  • Understand commonly used tools and technologies for IoT application development
COURSE 4: Communication and Networking Technologies in IoT

Learn to assess, select and customize communication and networking technologies for IoT applications across a broad spectrum of domains.

8 Weeks

THIS COURSE COVERS

Wireless Communication & Network protocols – 802.11, BLE, NFC, LORA, Zigbee; Wireless Sensor and Adhoc networks, Cross-Layer protocol optimization; Industrial and Automotive Networks, VANETS, Security issues and QoS in IoT Systems.

  • Compare and assess different network models and techniques in IoT systems
  • Use relevant communication protocols to design and deploy applications in different industries such as manufacturing and automotive
  • Identify security vulnerabilities in wireless networks, IoT applications and devices, and outline solutions
COURSE 5: Sensors, Actuators, and Signal Processing

Learn how to connect the cyber world (computers and internet) with the physical world (e.g. human body, automobiles, factories).

Sensing Technologies for remote data gathering; Sensors and actuators of varied complexity; Signal Acquisition, Processing and Conditioning; Sensor fusion, Smart Sensors and interface to the internet; Introduction to advanced Sensing technologies - HCI in IoT, BCI in IoT; Control of actuators via Internet

  • Interface multimedia data acquisition devices / sensors with computing devices

COURSE 6: Data Management in IoT

Learn how to design and implement IOT applications that manage big data, streaming data, and/or distributed data.

Data sources in IoT and Data Types in IoT, Data-centric IoT products, Flow of Data, Challenges in managing IoT Data; Data Models and Data acquisition in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Query Processing and Query Optimization in WSNs, Sensor Data Cleaning and Storage, Embedded Database Systems; Data Acquisition in RFID Networks – RFID data cleaning and data preparation; Stream Processing – Event Processing, Event Processing in RFID, Mining Data Streams – Clustering, Classification, Frequent Pattern Mining, Change Detection, Dimensionality Reduction, Forecasting; Big Data Management in IoT – Big Data Storage and Processing, Distributed Processing – Issues and solutions.

COURSE 7: IoT: Capstone Project

Demonstrate your knowledge and skills acquired in the Post Graduate Diploma in Internet of Things by Designing and Implementing an end-to-end IoT system involving Hardware, Software and Networking elements.

COURSE DURATION

8 Weeks

THIS COURSE COVERS

Under the guidance of BITS Pilani faculty members, you will follow a six-week structured project plan to:

  • Review key concepts from past IoT courses
  • Select a project area and adopt a formal development methodology
  • Begin building a prototype IoT system, making design choices along the way
  • Present the working prototype to the instructors and submit a technical report
  • Receive and reflect upon active feedback from instructors through each stage
YOU WILL LEARN TO
  • Identify opportunities for enabling Smart environments using IoT technologies
  • Design and Implement end-to-end IoT Solutions by analyzing various technology choices, design trade-offs and implementation issues
  • Create a formal system development methodology and hone your technical communication skills

Eligibility

To apply, candidates must be working professionals holding BE/ B.Tech. or equivalent in Comp. Sci./ Info. Sys./ Electronics/ Electrical/ Instrumentation. Employed professionals who hold M.Sc. (Electronics) are also eligible to apply.
