Super-charge Swachh Bharath and Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations General Assembly, in the year 2015, has set 17 goals that need to be achieved by the year 2030. These goals are called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Goal number 6 of SDG (SDG 6) focusses on ‘Water and Sanitation’, which is a priority on the Indian Government’s agenda as evident from the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Mission. The capacity building in this area is an important task and the International Water Association (IWA), an association of water professionals around the world, predicted a huge requirement of professions in the area of ‘Water and Sanitation’.

M.Tech. Sanitation Science, Technology & Management for working professionals is a four-semester programme designed to build their expertise in Policy, Operation, Finance, Operations related matters, and enable them to come up with creative and sustainable ideas for solving or managing problems in Sanitation, Water and Waste Management.

Programme Highlights

  1. Industry-relevant curriculum, delivered online or on-site lectures.
  2. Four-semester inter-disciplinary and comprehensive programme covering aspects such as Planning, Implementation, Governance, Technology, Operations and Finance in the areas of Sanitation, Water and Waste Management projects.
  3. One-week intensive hands-on training in Applied Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory and Faecal Sludge Management laboratory which will involve conducting experiments as well as visits to working demonstration plants.
  4. The Dissertation (Project Work) in the final semester enables students to apply concepts and techniques learnt during the programme.
  5. The programme uses a Continuous Evaluation System that assesses the learners over convenient and regular intervals. Such a system provides timely and frequent feedback and helps busy working professionals stay on course with the programme.
  6. The education delivery methodology is a blend of classroom and experiential learning. Experiential learning consists of lab exercises, assignments, case studies and work-integrated activities.
  7. Participants who successfully complete the programme will become members of an elite & global community of BITS Pilani Alumni.
